Merritt Island, FL asked in Child Custody for Florida

Q: Is there a way my 15 year old daughter can stay in Florida while I file for child custody modification.

He lives in Vegas and she has been here in Florida living with me for a year and 7 months. He sent her for Spring Break in 2012 and he did not take her back. He kept saying he was moving back to Florida. In January 2013 he did come back and left in February 2013 and did not take her. She wants me to have custody, but he will come and grab her and take her back to Vegas. She has said she will hurt herself if she has to go back to him. Because she has been with me for this long the Dept. Of Revenue is going after him for child support starting from when sent her here and left her. Which he received a certified letter on Saturday Oct. 12, 2013. He called me and said he would come and get her before he would pay child support. I have been told that is not considered abandonment because he left her with me her mother. We are both afraid of him.
