A: Shoot, what kind of silly question is this? You might get arrested when you are AT HOME SLEEPING IN YOUR BED with that FTA warrant outstanding! To heck with the license renewal...get that FTA taken care of! If you get pulled over for speeding YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL! If the only thing lacking is payment of money, this can be resolved pretty easily. Getting to your question, if all you are doing is renewing your license, they are unlikely to do a background check. But you better get that FTA warrant taken care of. You should consult your family attorney about this matter. If you don't have an attorney already, I'll be happy to speak with you about this matter. While I have discussed the general provisions of the law, there are some exceptions. So you shouldn't rely on this note as a legal opinion. If you click on my name it will take you to my contact page. There you can find information on how to contact me, either by phone or by email. I don't charge for the first 30 minutes of an initial consultation.

A: I forgot to mention in my earlier answer that if your FTA warrant is based on a failure to appear in a traffic case...you won't be able to get your license renewed...in fact, your license is probably suspended even as we speak. When you have a traffic ticket, and then fail to appear, the local courts send a notice to the Alabama Department of Public Safety. The DPS then suspends your drivers license until the ticket is resolved, paid, guilty, not guilty, over, done completed. Sorry. Another good reason to take care of the FTA warrant first.
