Gardendale, AL asked in Probate for Florida

Q: My dad passed away in Florida. He was renting and his girlfriend wont let me in and says everything is hers.

FLORIDA..My dad passed away during a boating accident with his girlfriend. He was renting an apartment and he has multiple vehicles and many expensive guns. His girlfriend is NOT on lease, insurance, vehicles, bank accounts, utilities, etc.. She may occasionally get something in mail. She will not let me in or get anything. I live in B'ham Al. and have driven 2 times already to try and secure his things. Already the boat motor is off boat and in neighbor's yard. I'm almost positive items are being sold. There was no will, I filed for administrator and was appointed. The owner of the apartment is on my side and want her out also. They filed for her to be removed legally but now she knows that she is on her way out and I am concerned. Also the car she is driving is my dads...PLEASE WHAT CAN I DO

A: You must hire an attorney immediately if you have not already done so. You have to marshall the assets of the estate in order to be able to distribute them in accordance with Florida Statutes. You basically have the same powers over the assets as your dad did. If a crime has been committed, you have to report the crime.
