Baton Rouge, LA asked in Personal Injury for Louisiana

Q: If my purse was snatched outside Family Dollar Store and I was injured, can the company be liable for my hospital bill?

On Friday 9/12/2014 about 9:15pm I walked in the Family Dollar Store. I noticed a clerk counting a lot of money out in the open.

When I was ready to check out, he called a clerk to the register.

While a was being checked out, I got a phone call from my grand daughter, asking me what did I want from Pluckers.

Then a male walked through the door, he was talking to the clerk at the register and then he walked out.

The clerk on the floor was still counting money.

I paid for my items and walked out the door.

Just as I got out of the Family Dollar Store, when he was snatching my purse I was slung to the concrete.

When I got up, my lip was busted, my chest was in pain.

I walked to Family Dollar door and knocked . When he opened the door, I told them to call the Police I was robbed . My purse was snatched.

They called the Police. Police arrived and asked me did I get a description. I didn't see what he look like.

So they asked to see a video, nothing was found.

A: The real answer here is probably not. Sure, there could be facts that could make Family Dollar negligent. They could have, for example, known or had reason to know of the security risks associated with this particular type of theft or could have been negligent in the way they spooked the thief. But the odds of these facts lining up for you are very slim and it will be a challenge to get a lawyer interested particularly because your post does not suggest serious injuries.

I'm using general tort law to answer this question, not Louisiana law.
