Q: I have lawyer on contingency for personal injury. Do I have to retain or keep him?

A: No. As I tell all of my clients, "You're the boss." The contract you have with your attorney can be terminated by you at any time. A new lawyer may have to deal with the former lawyer's right to recover quantum merit fees for services and the lawyer's out of pocket costs if the new attorney is successful. But this is up to the new attorney to work out with the lawyer you dismissed.
