Pittsburgh, PA asked in Workers' Compensation for Pennsylvania

Q: Do I have to keep updating a workers compensation carrier of my appointments and progress in PA?

I keep my employer informed of my progress and appointments, however a "case Manager" from the workers comp carrier, constantly calls me requesting updates. He even wants a case worker to attend my doctors appointments and my therapy sessions. Do I have to permit this person in the exam room or therapy room? I explained to him that I would not permit that person in the exam room, to which he replied "that that was fine she will just talk to the doctor after you leave", and that he will continue to call me with update and that I must supply to him.

A: The carrier has a right to medical information required for billing purposes. They do not have a right to contact your doctor for additional information unless you sign an authorization. They do not have a right to send a nurse case manager to talk to your doctor. However, just because they do not have the right to do something does not mean that they will not do it anyhow.

If you want this to stop, hire a lawyer to withdraw all authorizations and send all future callers to him.
