Asked in Domestic Violence for Florida

Q: If a crime 5 years ago of violent abuse by my father did not get handled properly, can I file a suite now? How?-Thanks

If I have proper photos and paper work is there any way I can press charges against my father now? I'm in college and my lack of communication with him (as he could not apologize) from the incident 5 years ago has resulted in him cutting me out of his life completely. I'm afraid I may have a back injury due to his abuse and would like for him to have to pay for fees if need me and aid in my college expenses if I can manage successfully press charges. I don't want revenge, just for him to have to hone up to his horrendous parenting that my local officers did not want to deal with on a Friday night. Thank you!

A: You probably cannot file suit now. It is probably too late to do that. You cannot just sit on your right to file suit for years and then expect to be able to do something like sue. Go see an attorney about this.
