Sanford, FL asked in Family Law for Florida

Q: My boyfriend had a child support case a while back. How do i find info on the case for him? Like if its still active?

If the case is still active. if theres back payments and how much? I do know the mother and child live in Mississippi and we are in florida. He said last time he talked to the mother she had mentioned something that her new husband had adopted the child. If thats the case, wouldnt the child support be ended on its own, because the "new father" has taken on all rights as the father..?

A: Where was the case? If it was in FL you can go to the clerk of the circuit court and see the court file, which will let you know what has gone on in that case. If it was in MS you can probably do the same thing. In order for there to be an adoption the natural father would have to know about it, and would most likely have had to sign a written consent to the adoption. Future child support would not be due after the adoption, but back support would have to be paid.
