Q: How to deal with a 70 in a 65 speeding ticket in New York State?

I got a plea bargain letter that could convert the speeding ticket to VTL 1110A Disobeyed Traffic Control Device w/$150 fine. But I may still get 3 points.

Thank you for your question. A speeding ticket for 70 mph in a 65 mph zone makes me think that it’s possible that the police officer may have given you a “road side reduction” (speed was actually higher, but the police officer wrote the ticket for a lesser speed.). Regardless, a ticket for 5... View More

Q: Should I fight a speeding ticket if the confidential info section & other info is wrong?

I got pulled over by an unmarked PA State Trooper (the ticket says he was in a marked vehicle). He verbally told me I was going 64 in a 55, then issued me a ticket for 60 in a 55 to "do me a favor" since I otherwise have a clean driving record. In the confidential info section, he tries... Thank you for your question. Whether or not a reduction from a Speeding Ticket to a lesser charge is a good deal or not can depend on many factors, including the facts of the case, the speed you are alleged to have been driving, your driving record and the jurisdiction in which you received the... Thank you for your question. Generally, when you miss a court date (in NY) for a traffic ticket, the court can either give you the opportunity for another court date or notify NYS DMV that you failed to appear and request that they suspend your New York driving privileges. NYS DMV will then send... View More

Thank you for your question. Regardless of your sister's age, the fact that she is accused of committing a crime can be problematic, especially if she is not a U.S. Citizen. While these forums are good for general inquiries, the best advice I can give you is to speak with an attorney who is... View More

Thank you for your question. The first thing you should do, is contact NYS DMV and ask them what, specifically is causing this revocation, if you do not have a vehicle registered to you. Additionally, please keep in mind, that if a driver receives a ticket for No Insurance and pleads guilty or is... View More

Thank you for your question. In most cases, the date on a traffic ticket in New York (assuming you are not charged with a misdemeanor under the Vehicle and Traffic Law) is the date by which you have to answer the ticket (enter a plea) and a personal court appearance is usually not necessary at... Thank you for your question. Is it possible that the notice you received was from the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and not from the court where your ticket was handled? While your question seems to indicate that you do not have any other points on your license, it may be helpful to... View More
