Although this advice may be too late, if you are going to plead guilty, then it is always good to take steps that show you are remorseful.

That is right. You still cannot legally possess a firearm.

Q: Can a person be sent a legal complaint for felony charges via snail mail without being formally charged?

Recently one of my family members was sent via snail mail a complaint about having erroneously charged with two felonies that he does not know about?

Yes. This is a valid way to serve your family member. More importantly getting a complaint is actually the same thing as being charged with a crime.

Q: My brother is being charged for a crime in Colorado. He was charged for a similar when he was a minor. Can this used?

My brother is charged with a sex crime. He was charged with a sex crime when he was 16 but our family was told those records were sealed.He is now 38. In the state of Colorado can these files be brought back out and used against him?

Yes, The prior can be used against him. A Typical tactic for the prosecution is to use prior sex accusations against the defendant. If he is hiring an attorney is is vital that this attorney is familiar with defending the use of other act evidence.

Q: What is the next step after an accused person receives a legal complaint/summons in the mail?

The accused does not know the accusers. Can this still be valid? This evidentally occurred in Colorado prior to the accused moving to Idaho.

You will want to contact a local defense attorney. That person can get all the information you need about the case and can answer any questions you have.
