I agree with my colleague. It’s not likely that the court would grant visitorship. You may want to try and reach out to the child’s mother and see if you can come to an agreement to be able to see the child.

I agree with my colleague. You will need to give a written 30-day notice and see if the ex objects to it. If there is an objection then you can work with an attorney regarding the issue.

You have a contempt issue that can be legally handled to bring about the remedy. You will need to work with an attorney, but you can discuss the possibility of having her pay the legal fees since she is in contempt.

Work with a skip tracer to try and locate her. If all efforts are exhausted and she can’t be located you may be able to divorce by publication. Seek the help of attorney to do that.

Are you referring to ensuring lawyers are legal to practice in the state? You can call the state bar to make an inquiry regarding that. They will also tell you if there are complaints against an attorney.

Q: My ex-husband and I have agreed to extend my alimony for one year until our last child graduates from high school.

What kind of document do we need to make our agreement legal? I would like to create a simple letter stating the agreement rather than a formal modification (which I think is more expensive). Please advise.

I agree with my colleague. Unless you take the legal document it’s just going to be his word. You won’t be able to enforce anything if he backs out. You have to decide if that matters to you. If it does, then consult with an attorney regarding a modification.
