Not aware of any bar to you getting a passport. However, some countries, like Canada, will deny you entry to their countries.

A passport is only proof of citizenship, needed to travel abroad.

In most states, the laws are set up as "right to work" laws. That means that people have no CONTRACT or RIGHT to remain employed.
