Sacramento, CA asked in Criminal Law, Real Estate Law and Landlord - Tenant for California

Q: Is it okay for the sheriff department to keep arresting me because I'm homeless and they say I'm trespassing

I am staying near a school but on a slough which the school says they own which they dont the sheriff department officer told me that he's going to print out a paper that I'm supposed to sign stating that I know that I'm trespassing and that I'm going to be moving at a certain date and if I don't move by that certain date all my belongings that are here are going to be destroyed and I will be sent to jail if I do not agree to sign the paper should I sign it is it even legal for him to do that

A: Unfortunately, it's difficult to be homeless in many places in California. If you've violated a law, then the police can cite or arrest you. A public defender will represent you in court. A: IF YOU ARE HOMELESS, AND BY BEING SUCH YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING THAT BREAKS THE LAW, THEN YOU, LIKE ANYONE ELSE, CAN BE ARRESTED.

IF YOU HAVE TO GO TO COURT FOR ANY CRIMINAL ARREST, A PUBLIC DEFENDER WILL BE APPOINTED TO REPRESENT YOU.........AND I SUSPECT COULD GET YOUR MATTER RESOLVED SUCCESSFULLY...............WITHOUT JAIL TIME.
