Your testimony that your trailer was stolen is evidence that it was, so your insurance company is incorrect. You do have an obligation to file a police report within 24 hours after you discovered the theft, but obviously you cannot report what you don't know about.

I agree with you. Its not betterment. A catalytic converter does not depreciate because the useful life is essentially as long as the useful life of the car. Do you have anything in writing from the insurance company taking this position?
