Q: my landlord is harassing me about my unleashed service dog. She wears a training collar. She is under control.

Recently the landlord and I finally came to an agreement over damages her neglect caused my property. The next day she began demanding my dog be put on a leash. My service dog had not been leashed in almost a year, since she had become a service dog.

Your service dog cannot be required to be on a leash in two instances: 1) your disability prevents you from using a leash, and 2) the service your dog performs for you as a result of your disability cannot be performed if the dog is on a leash.

A Louisiana attorney could advise best, but your question remains open for a week. Until you speak with a local attorney, many courts nationwide do not look kindly on the idea of waiving liability for injury in general. It could depend on how a waiver was written. Good luck

You do not mention when your court date is, however, you need to go about hiring an attorney between now and then. If you are able to hire an attorney before then, then he (ad you) will decide whether or not to seek a continuance. If you do not think you will be able to hire an attorney before... View More

If you did not fulfill the terms of your lease, then you are subject to forfeiting your deposit. If you and your landlord agreed that you would receive your deposit back, then that may be a different scenario.

Repairs will be delayed due to the hurricane. You could likely get out of your lease without penalty, or your landlord may decide to give you given discounted rent due to the inconvenience. If you are trying to get out of your lease talk to an experienced real estate/contract attorney.
