Q: Will myself or my partner lose SSDI benefits or will our payments be reduced if we get married?

We are both disabled and both receive SSDI on our own work credits.

No, your SSDI disability benefits will not be reduced if you get married. However, other Social Security benefits such as SSI, Survivors, Widow/Widower, Divorced Spouses, and Child’s benefits may be affected.

To file for Social Security Disability you file the initial application either online or at your local office. To file online go to: https://secure.ssa.gov/iClaim/dib or find a local office here: https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp .

Q: What exactly are social security retirement benefits? Do I have to be a certain age to apply for them?

Yes. Minimum 62. You may want to wait later. https://www.ssa.gov/planners/retire/applying1.html

Your social security office can give you lots of other information--for that matter your Congressperson or US Senators' offices would also have lots of information, as does AARP.
