It is a criminal offense. You don’t want to record at your young age. I would suggest you find a local traffic lawyer. search Justia

Q: I was given a traffic ticket in Springfield, IL for running a red light. No previous convictions. What are my options?

Request supervision. $255 and if you pay that day supervision is 30 days. If you need time to pay it's 60. You or an attorney has to appear on your behalf. There is no mail in option.

Hi, got a speeding ticket for going 60 in a 30. This is my first time ever getting in trouble with the law, I have no pervious background, I was also test driving a car when I got pulled over, I'm under 21. What is the most likely outcome for my case? Nervous about it!

Your first ever getting in trouble is a criminal offense due to the speed. Best retain legal counsel.

Q: My mom is possibly unable to be in the room during my court date, but if she is in the same building is that okay?

My mom apparently coincidentally has a court date the same as mine. She has hers first. Hers is more serious than mine where mine is just a ticket so she needs to be there. If I came to the room by myself, but show proof she was there before or after so my mom can attend hers would that still apply... Read more »

Just explain the problem. You won't be the only one in court that day. They can set yours to the end of the list or figure out something.

The difficulty you can run into is that not all states have supervision or a similar deferral. If not maybe it can be reduced to a non moving violation. Most states are required by the Compact to report to other states. not all of them do.

No. Supervision means that one didn’t count. Moreover, you are eligible to request supervision for this newest ticket.

If you really want a lawyer, and you should have one given that this is a criminal offense, you can either contact one as soon as possible or if you simply don’t have time, you can go to court and ask for a new court date and tell the judge you want to hire a lawyer. It won’t be a problem

The next cop who sees you could stop you 5 minutes after the previous told you that you could go. They don't have to give you a break.

Q: I was ticketed in Indiana for passing a school bus, and now IL wants my license for 3 months...

I consulted a lawyer in Boone County where it happened, and he told me that it was a basic traffic ticket with a light fine and no suspension and recommended I pay it and avoid the court date. I did so, but recently I received a suspension notice that starts August 17th. I attempted to have an... Read more »

A formal hearing would take just as long or in fact longer because you couldn't get it set until October. I assume they suspended you under 6-206 (a)(6) because you committed an offense in another state that, if committed in Illinois, would cause a suspension. However if it's a four lane... Read more »

Q: 16, got a speeding ticket for 30 above. First offense, chances of suspension in IL?

I'm 16 and It was 2am, and I was going 60 in a 30, there was no one else on the road. got a ticket for past curfew and paid it, my court date is tomorrow. What are my chances of getting my license suspended vs getting supervision?

If this is your only ticket in the last 12 months and you are over 21, your chances of getting suspended even if you are convicted are zero. However, it is a class B misdemeanor, which is a criminal offense.

Q: Ticket while using a cellphone. No option to pay without admitting guilt.

I thought that there is usually an option to pay the fine and not have it affect my driving record or plead guilty. Only option appears to be paying the fine and pleading guilty or requesting a trial. The trial location would be hours from my home. Am I missing something?

Some tickets require a court appearance by you or a lawyer in order to request court supervision

Q: Will I get something in the mail if I have a court date for trespassing but didn’t sign anything?

My friend was holding a smoke bomb in a parking garage and I took a picture of him, we both have court dates. I’m only 18 and I wanted to know if there’s any way I could make it so it’s not on my record. Also will anything come in the mail regarding the court date

Theodore J. Harvatin
Theodore J. Harvatin answered on Jul 1, 2020

It is possible. The fact you did not sign anything neither makes it more nor less likely that you will be charged.

Q: I was pulled over for going 93 in a 70 in Wisconsin, but live in Illinois. How will points work?

I have a clean record as this is my first offense. Is there a way to either reduce points or get the violation removed through supervision and/or traffic school? I’m 21.

Theodore J. Harvatin
Theodore J. Harvatin answered on Jun 27, 2020

I do not know if Wisconsin has supervision. They may reduce it to a nonmoving violation or if it’s reported to Illinois one conviction is not going to affect your driving privileges
