Asked in Landlord - Tenant for Florida

Q: If you respond to an eviction but your landlord doesn't what can you do?

My current landlord filed an eviction against us on Jan. 30th, they accepted past due rent (with knowledge) on Feburary 5th but have yet to clear the case. We have responded and continued to pay our rent to the clerk of courts. Initially they made us sign a stipulation that they never filed with the courts, only took the money and left the case open. The owner of the company that owns my complex has since threatened me with more legal action if I didn't release the funds to him. I told him I would once the case was cleared but until then I would not be releasing any money. They have yet to respond and its been 2 months since our response. What can we do?

A: You needed to get an attorney then. I hope this has been resolved in your favor by now.
