Q: Do I need an employment law attorney?

I have a wage case just not sure if I should consult attorney or just take

evidence to the labor board. Me and my wife took a job at a townhome

community in Claremore. At the time it had been neglected for several years.

We remodeled one unit and the owners were satisfied we could do this so we

spent 3yrs renovating 32 units. and the grounds. We worked for a salary

which was under federal minimum for a single exempt employee yet alone two.

they counted free rent and a small utility assistance as income. Now my wife

might technically fall under the exempt laws but along with her management

and office duties she also cleaned units and did a custom f aux finish to

some walls, painted a custom color wall and wall papered some borders in

every unit. Me I have found out I can not be classified exempt 95% of what I

do are blue collar jobs like plumbing, electrical,construction, and

maintenance. I have documented a lot of my hours in a personal

A: It sounds like you have a wage claim that the Department of Labor would be interested in. Generally, if you go the administrative route, there is value in having a lawyer help you prepare your charge.
