Woodbridge, VA asked in Child Custody for Maryland

Q: I've lived with my mom for most of my life, how can i move with my dad if she's not letting me?

I'm 16 years old and born in El Salvador. I came to the U.S. when I was 5 and have lived with my mom here in MD until now and my dad lives in California. I don't know if my mom has full custody of me since they were never married and my dad doesn't pay legal child support, just sends me money monthly on his own. My mom and I have been having lots of troubles and my dad wants me to move in with him but my mother won't allow it. I feel unhappy living with my mother, what can be done so that I can move in with my dad in California?

A: You can petition the courts and/or your dad can petition the courts here in Maryland for custody, if your mom is not agreeing to allow you to move with your dad.
