Asked in Family Law for Rhode Island

Q: Hello,I need help in family law...

Hello,

My name is Sasa and I live with my mother in Bosnia and Herzegovina. My father left us during the war in 1993 when I was one year old. He now lives in Montreal, CA with another family. My father never payed alimony to my mother so she sued him about 5 years ago. She has won, court said that he must pay $150 every month, but my fathers lawyer complained that $150 is too much so court reduced alimony to $100. My father never showed up on court, there was just his lawyer. His lawyer told us outside the court that my father will never pay anything and that nobody can make him to pay because he lives in Canada.

Can you help me or give me an advice what to do? I will come to US in June on Student Exchange program and I will be in US for 4 months. Can I do something from the US?

Best regards,

Sasa

A: Bring the papers with you when you come to the US and meet with a family law attorney to review your (mother's) rights.
