Ridgecrest, CA asked in Immigration Law for California

Q: Leaving the United States with a felony

I am a legal immigrant resident in California(Green Card Holder), and my card expires in 2019. I had a felony for statutory rape about 3 years ago. I did 6 months in house arrest, and 3 years on probation, I also paid my fines; I did all I have to do. Now, I'm planning on visiting the Philippines this coming october. When I come back from the Philippines, would it be a problem for me at the airport if the immigration found out that I have a history of felony? Would they not let me enter the country?

A: There is no right answer for your question. Normally you would be allowed but as far as sex related crimes are concerned the officers are very strict. The answer to your question completely depends on the officer who will be interviewing you when you enter the USA. They have full authority to accept or reject you. You can however contact an immigration attorney to help you with this process to guide you and to prepare you for the interview. All the best.
