Q: I want to know if can i get the united states citizenship through my father, he's an american citizen.

I have lived all my life in mexico under my mother legal custody. my father lives in California. my parents are divorced and i have no contact with my father since i was 7 years old.

the fact my father is a citizen can help me to being a citizen too? how?

what i have to do?

i turned 18 years old on september.

A: Your father might be able to petition you for a green card, you will have to maintain the green card for 5 years and then you can become a US citizen. This green card process should happen before you turn 21 so contact an immigration attorney as soon as you can and start the application process. All the best.
