Maineville, OH asked in Traffic Tickets for Ohio

Q: I got a speeding ticket in 2014 that I haven't paid yet. I plan to pay next month. Will I get arrested when I go pay?

I went to court for the ticket when I first got it so that I could get the due date extended because I was unemployed at the time. I thought they had said that if I failed to pay by the new date it would go into collections and it would begin to incur interest. I showed on the new due date to pay however, still being unemployed, my checking account was short and I ended up having to cancel the check. I had moved since then and lost the paperwork and here I am a year and a half later. I never received anything about there being a warrant or anything about it going into collections. I was hoping to pay it in February but am nervous that they might be able to arrest me when I go in to pay. How would I know if there's a warrant or if my license are suspended?

A: Call the clerk of courts and ask what the status of your case is. He or she can tell you if there is a warrant. If there is a warrant, there is a warrant block on your license. You can likely make arrangements to pay the ticket and get the warrant lifted.
