Q: I have domestic issues I need help with

I have a 28 yr olI have a 28 yr old son. Which my mother has raised I was 15 when I had him. All my life I been struggling with child support being garnished, losing my lisence, bank accounts being frozen and even jail time. I didn't even know I owed child support for many yrs due to being alienated and staying away from my family alot due to the fact my mom took my son away from me.. anyways I was 10,000 behind when I was made aware of the judgement against me. I have paid many thousands over the yrs and still owe 16,000 .. I want to know what I can do to go after the other parent who has never paid one red cent for our son. Not to mention he was an adult when we had him while I was still a minor. I need relief this has haunted me all my life. I need a lisence to get back and forth to work. I need a bank account cause I'm trying to do something with my life and trying to start my own business. I can't even get a passport. I don't mind paying my share for my son. But enough is enough d

A: Due to the age of the case you have restricted options. Option one, bankruptcy is a possibility (you would need to qualify for an exception to the normal rule that support payments are NOT discharged in bankruptcy--you will need a bankruptcy attorney). Option two, contact the court and establish a payment plan (expect to be treated very poorly--which you cannot react to...). Option three, try to reconcile with your parents and have them sign a satisfaction and release of your support payments. Filing against the father is probably not an option because he was likely subject to support payments too (you may want to check this). Lastly, you really need to attend to this matter. Your support payments have ballooned because have not been paying support. Interest will continue to accrue and all the restrictions you mentioned will continue until your debt is paid, discharged or you die.
