Manassas, VA asked in Family Law for Virginia

Q: Can I get back child support from my stepson mother who after he moved in with his father and I she never reported it

He started living with us at 10 y/o and his mother received food stamps and and continued to get money from the state and my combat pay and our income tax was kept. I was the only one working at the time so when my husband started working his pay was garnished and tax return for this year was kept. My stepson lived with us from the age of 10 -19.

A: I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly - son lived with his father for 9 years, but father's pay was being garnished for child support the entire time? If that is the case, I'm not sure there's anything that can be done. The time to amend support and request it from the other parent was back when the child was a minor. Consult with a local attorney to review the specific facts of the case.
