Oklahoma City, OK asked in Personal Injury for Oklahoma

Q: I live in Oklahoma. I fired my attorney before he got all of the bills. How can I fight his fee?

I was injured in an auto accident. I hired an attorney, but he repeatedly lied to me about how far along the case was and that he had sent out a demand. When he contacted me a couple of months later asking me to gather the medical bills for him, I fired him. He wants to charge his full 1/3 contingency fee. He never even got all of the bills. He didn't send out a demand. He has written letters stating he intends to hold a lien for the full fee but I never received a lien notice from a court. How can I fight his fee claims? I don't want to hire another lawyer.

A: You may want to at least consult with another attorney as to your rights and the attorney's rights to his attorney fees. You should read the Attorney Client Contract to see what language (if any) applies in this situation. Typically, an insurance company will take the case / claim more seriously if you are represented. Good luck.
