Sterling, CO asked in Child Support for Colorado

Q: How long does an employer have to send out support checks after they are garnished

My ex husband is paying child support via a garnishment. He gets paid on the 5th and the 20th. How long after he gets paid does his employer have to send the money garnished to the family support registry, so they can send it on to me? In May they failed to send the two payments in until the beginning of June. Junes two payments were sent at the same time the end of June. It is now the 21st of July, and I have not received payment for the check my ex received on the 5th. This is getting ridiculous.

Thank You

Sherrie

A: The garnishments should attach when a salary is paid. Usually, a valid garnishment is not an issue with employers since they have no interest in payment... Contact the child support office at your local courthouse for guidance. There are legal means to force payment, but these are best explored after contact the support office.
