Boston, MA asked in Car Accidents for Pennsylvania

Q: I was in a hit and run but only have liability coverage. Am I responsible for all of my repair costs?

I was in a hit and run accident. The other driver was at fault and kept going.

My insurance says since I only have liability and not collision, that I'm not covered for anything- since it's the other driver's fault, it's their responsibility.

Do I have any options or am I on the hook out of pocket to have my car repaired?

Thanks.

A: If you do not have collision coverage, you are stuck.

A: I wouldn't say you're not covered for anything. First, did you report it to police? If not, file a report. If you were hurt in the wreck your medicals are covered up to your policy, no deductible. And, if you were hurt, you may have a claim for uninsured motorist benefits. It get's technical, so contact a member of the Pa. Assn for Justice--we give free consults so on detailed and private issues people like you can know their rights.

A: PS--in case I didn't make it clear, as Mr. Scoblionko said, repairs, towing and storage are on you. If you have it at the tow place pay to have it towed somewhere it won't rack up storage at $30-35 it gets steep! Basically, that's what collision coverage is for--if you run your car into something, or if the other driver has no insurance--or if the other driver leaves. You don't have collision, other driver has no insurance, so.......But you have other things going on as I mentioned in my earlier post.

A: Step number - be sure to file a report with the police. Being hit by "phantom" vehicles are difficult without the "proof" of a police report. You might be able to go under your uninsured motorist plan.
