Lady Lake, FL asked in Child Custody and Family Law for Florida

Q: My daughter had a baby 3 months ago. Ive been caring for both of them. She signed temp custody papers in July.

I got all the paperwork together, but it took some time. Nobody knows who the father is. My daughter is developmentally delayed and suffering from postpartum and a history of depression. She is taking meds for it. Ive been doing everything for the baby, while my daughter would leave to go see her "boyfriend" up to a week at a time. She came back last week. When I woke up Labor Day, she was gone and so was the baby. We called the cops and DCF bc she didnt take anything for the baby (no bottles, diapers, or formula?!). They couldnt help bc we hadnt filed the papers with the court. Now we did, and we have to wait. In the meantime, my daughter is now saying that she will win in court bc she is the mother. But she spent the last 3 months telling everyone that the baby is our responsibility now (meaning me and my husband). If she signed the papers, what are our chances of the judge granting the temp custody and returning the baby to us?

A: The order should go your way. You will have to search the FL Putative Father Registry. You should hire a lawyer to represent you in the case.
