Miami, FL asked in Divorce for Florida

Q: I want to file for divorce but I can not work due to a disability. I receive SSDI. How can I afford an attorney?

Once I file for divorce I'll need to have a place to live and pay rent of some sort out of my SSDI. I'd like to know if there is any type of assistance I can receive to help me achieve my goal. My wife and I have 7 years left on a 30 yr mortgage. I have no other income except my SSDI. What kind of options are available for someone in my situation when it comes to legal representation? Thanks for taking my question.

A: Attorneys are prohibited from taking divorce cases on a contingent fee basis. However there is provision for one party to a divorce being required to pay some or all of the other party's lawyer expenses under certain circumstances.
