Knoxville, TN asked in Contracts and Business Law for Tennessee

Q: How can I research past cases similar to mine so I can find a successful lawyer in the type of representation I need?

I would like to be able to find case history to search similar cases and find a lawyer who has been successful a certain type of lawsuit. I'm looking at breach of contract by a much larger corporation to a smaller LLC. What resource can I use to search by the specific corporation's name in order to see the lawsuits they have been involved in and the names of the lawyers that have won the cases against them?

A: I am not sure there is a "specific resource" that will generate this type of information. However, almost all lawsuits are public records ( there are some cases where the Judge will "seal" the records to protect minors or perhaps important business information, but this is not normal) and most court clerk's offices are now computerized, so check the various court clerk's offices will reveal the lawsuits where the company has been sued. However, this means reading each of those lawsuits to see what each one of them is about and if it is a very large company, it also means that they could have been sued in more than one State, so there could be hundreds of court clerk's offices to check. I would start where their main office is located or where they have large regional offices. Hope this helps.
