Colorado Springs, CO asked in Real Estate Law and Landlord - Tenant for Colorado

Q: My water bill quadrupled in a month and the apartment mgr won't give me a detailed breakdown or a reason why.

just moved out of an apartment in Colorado and the landlord will not give me a breakdown of what my water sewage and trash is to match the total amount I am being charged. A new management company took over the apartment complex the last two-and-a-half months I was there and as soon as they took over my water sewage and trash went from a consistent amount around $35 to $45 a month up to being tripled or ever quadruple the amount in a single month and they won't explain to me why there is such a difference & won't provide any details to justify the amount. I just got my final bill which was supposed to be for half of September. The 1st through the 15th and the water sewage and trash bill has now quadrupled $150 and they still won't give me a reason why or a breakdown to show how they came up with that amount. Shouldnt they be responsible or required to provide that information if requested? And as a resident of an apartment complex in Colorado can they just charge whatever they want?

A: The management company must provide a detailed bill upon request. You may need to contact an attorney. Free to low cost assistance can be found at this link: http://www.intotolegal.com/upcoming%20Events/Pro%20Bono%20Services.html .
