Sherman Oaks, CA asked in Consumer Law, Contracts and Products Liability for California

Q: I purchased a 2012 Chevy Equinox and have been experiencing problems that I found out are very common without recall.

Is there anyway I can take action against Chevy and GM? The company doesn't want to take ownership of their production of vehicles with faulty parts. It's a Certified GM vehicle, but it's already undriveable.

A: If it's certified it may give rise to some action. Contact www.naca.net to find a consumer attorney near you.

A: You have not said that you bought it used, but I must assume you did. In that case you bought it from a dealer, and I assume it was probably a Chevrolet dealer, but I do not think it necessarily is. How long have you had the car? I do not know that a "Certified" sticker on the car means, and that would be the source of answers to our questions. Dealers are not owned by GM. They are independent businesses. Your first, and probably only, recourse is to the dealer. Talk to him. Do not threaten him with a law suit!! That is not a good negotiating tactic when you want someone to do something for you.
