Asked in Child Custody for Colorado

Q: My sister will not give my child back

I have raised my child alone since birth and recently I lost my place in Missouri and had to move to colorado. I feel I did the right thing by asking my sister to watch after my child until I got an apartment an a job. I was there during this process, it's not like I just left her there. She has been there about 1 month. I got us an apartment and I got a job so my next move was to go get my baby and get back to normal. Well i weny to get her and my sister refused to give her back. I tried to take her being I am her mother and custodial parent and she called the police on me. The police at first were not going to make the call on this but ultimately wouldn't let me leave with my child!? I believe my sister is making false accusations about me to the police and anyone else who will listen to her. I can prove any claim she makes about me wrong. I am not on drugs. I am a caring loving mother. I have a home and a job. I need help or advice please!

A: As it sounds like the child is in Missouri, you need to speak with a Missouri attorney. Colorado does not have jurisdiction over your child. In terms of Missouri, it looks like you will need to file a custody case to get these issues resolved.
