My ex-husband and I both have new spouses and Families. He lives in Kentucky and I live in Tennessee. He is a truck driver and wants to sign over his rights to my new husband to adopt our daughter. Now he says he can just sign his financial rights over to my husband but my husband does not have to adopt her. That makes no sense to me. He wants us to sign a paper allowing him to give up his financial responsibility and for my new husband to take financial responsibility but not actually adopt our child. Can he do that?

A: Tennessee law does not allow a man to escape his responsibility to support his child by simply signing away "his rights" UNLESS its part of adoption ( where another man assumes that responsibility). No exceptions.
