Q: I am trying to find out where in the Philadelphia court system my lawyer filed a personal injury claim for me
It has been almost ten years since the automobile accident and I have no news from the case. My lawyer is giving me the run-around and keeps stating that he's waiting for a better offer from the other party... I am trying to find the docket number.
A: If a suit was filed, you should be able to get the number from the Prothonotary (Clerk of Courts) of Philadelpha County by providing the names of the plaintiff and the defendant. However, you may find it hard to get information by telephone. If so, you would have to personally go to the office, which is in Philadelphia City Hall.
A:
This may sound dumb but have they sent you interrogatories or other papers the other side has filed? That would give you a court term (usually the year) and number.
At that point you'd best go down to the courthouse to look at the file.
Or just schedule a meeting with your lawyer to review what he has , what he may need form you.
Often the Court filiing won't show many of the papers involved. For instance the interrogatories I mentioned? They don't get filed with the court any more.
Best thing is to sit down--you could be surprised how big your file is.
