Hotchkiss, CO asked in Child Custody for Colorado

Q: Can my lawyer renegotiate my time with my children with my ex's lawyer and not tell me, that they changed what we agree

My ex and I and our attorneys sat down and agreed to settle on time with the children. Now My ex's lawyer sent my lawyer a email and said that he needed to change a few things without my permission and now my lawyer tells me I have to sign what I did not agree to.

A: NO! Your lawyer is authorized to negotiate on your behalf and can recommend a particular action/inaction, but a lawyer cannot force you accept a negotiated agreement. There are always exceptions (mostly related to emergencies, inability to be in contact with a client or prior authorization), but a lawyer cannot force a client to accept a deal. Be aware, the lawyer may have negotiated the best possible deal. Also, your refusal will likely result in increased legal fees and may potentially sour the attorney-client relationship.

At minimum the lawyer should be will to explain to you the details of the offer AND the benefits/risks of accepting the offer. If the lawyer will not explain the deal and continues for "force" you sign, you may want to consider replacing your lawyer.
