Grove City, OH asked in Family Law, Criminal Law and Animal / Dog Law for Ohio

Q: Gifted cat was removed from home from a family member who doesn't live in the home, what actions can I take?

My best friend gave me a kitten that was a gift after my grandfather died. I am staying in my grandparents home with my uncle. My uncle allowed the cat as long as I maintained the cats needs. Well, my aunt who does not live at the home has since removed my cat without my consent, gave it to someone she works with whom I never met, and came into my LOCKED BEDROOM to get to him. What can I do about this situation? I want my kitten back and press any kind of charges.

A: You could try to file a police report. They are not likely to take it seriously, and might tell you it is a family matter to resolve, and tell you to talk with your uncle and others about it. A claim could be filed in small claims court. Maybe find out who has the cat, and tell that person to return it.
