Columbus, OH asked in Animal / Dog Law and Real Estate Law for Ohio

Q: My neighbor's dog climbs my 6ft fence & has ignored my requests to prevent this. What can I do to hold her accountable?

My neighbor approached me before moving in to let me know that her dog has a history of climbing fences. I told her my concerns for my 12yr old medically fragile dog then and asked that we be able to address any issues should they arise. The first time I spoke to her she seemed content to assure me that her much larger pit mix would never harm my dog, so I followed up with a letter to her explaining my concerns and asking her to supervise her dogs in the yard until a she could install a proper barrier & also asked that we keep open communication about the situation. She ignored this & it has happened again. Aside from calling Animal Control to come get the dog when this happens, is there anything else I can do in order to hold her accountable for containing her dog?

A: If he dogs escapes her yard, you can call the police. An animal at large is generally for very minor criminal offense.
