Fayette, AL asked in Criminal Law for Alabama

Q: How do I squash a warrant that is 22 years old from Cicero IL. when I have lived in Alabama for 22 years and still do?

In 95' I was arrested for Assault on a Peace Officer. I was 17 years old. Court was in July of that year. I moved to Alabama in June of that year. I turned 18 years old before the court date and I have a FTA warrant. I left Cicero and came to Alabama to provide a safer environment for my up and coming family. I have since had 5 children, been an upstanding citizen and remained out of trouble since 99' and have had no run ins with law other than traffic violations. A few years ago I recently found out that the Officer I got into a fight with was arrested and served federal time, 2 years. His name is Dino Vitalo. You can read the article I did, here. http://abc7chicago.com/archive/8370236/ ... Thank you in Advanced for your assistance and I look forward to hearing from someone.

A: Its simple. You select a competent criminal defense lawyer in Cicero, Illinois, and hire him or her to do it for you. Its not something you can do yourself. Well, technically, you can of course try to do it yourself, but the chances of success are way less than good if you try that. With a case that old, the chances are good that a competent lawyer could get it dismissed.

Good luck. I think the odds are good that a good lawyer could get the case dismissed, but (and pay close attention now) if you try to handle it yourself there is a very good chance you'll make a mistake, and it just could be the kind of mistake that would get you in such trouble that even a good lawyer wouldn't be able to get it dismissed. In other words, if you play with it you just might break something.

WARNING: I am not your lawyer and providing you with the generic information, definition, clarification or explanation you seek about a legal matter on this anonymous forum does not make me your lawyer. By answering your question I am only trying to provide you with general information that will deepen your understanding of the legal concept that appears to be an issue for you, that will hopefully guide you in selecting and communicating with a lawyer of your choosing. The reason for all this is that legal problems are intensely fact-driven, and it is impossible to give anyone correct legal advice without comprehensive inquiry by the lawyer into the specific facts of the situation that concerns you, and the law of the jurisdiction in which you reside, and that is impossible to accomplish through this website. Even though I am not your lawyer, if I should later become your lawyer no representation is made that the quality of the legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.
