Asked in Personal Injury and Landlord - Tenant for Kentucky

Q: Can I sue?

have a court order stating that I was evicted and I had until Saturday March 11, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. to remove my fiance's my two daughters (ages 1 & 2), and my belongings. My family went to the home on March 10, 2017 to start gathering up our things.. Only to find that my landlord had already entered the house, destroyed our belongings and put them in a trailer to haul to a landfill. When it was clearly stated that we had until March 11, 2017 on the court order. There was $30,000 worth of belongings including clothes, children's toys, electronics, along with sentimental things including ultrasound pictures, baby pictures, and family heirlooms. He also disposed of social security cards, birth certificates, and W2s. Leaving my family and myself with nothing. I have pictures of the destroyed property loaded up in my landlords trailer that are time stamped with the exact date and time along with the tag number on his truck. I have since been diagnosed with depression. Do I have a case?

A: Not so much for the depression but yes. He took your property. That's conversion. Contact a member of the Ky.Assn for Justice--they give free consultations. Another source would be call legal services/ legal aid, ask for their landlord tenant unit, find out if any of their attorneys went into private practice. Good luck!
