Oakland, CA asked in Child Support for California

Q: I want to know can she take me back to court and get child support if she got fired or quit her job? Read more info 1st.

My kids mother, of 2, and I split up around 2 years ago. She makes around 80k a year and I make around 40k. She tried to take me to court for child support and we both found out instead of me paying her she'd be paying me around $500 a month. I didn't take it or pursue the child support, I just don't believe in taking someone else's hard earned money especially because I was the one who opted out of the relationship. 2 years later I just started my own business and she is already hounding me for money, just to say I haven't made a dime yet I'm still putting money into the business. She got fired from her job, allegedly, and now I'm worried that she will try to go after child support instead of getting another job. She says she's going to move back home and go back to school. We both have split custody and we split everything down the middle with the exception that she has the kids on her medical but I let her claim taxes on both of them in exchange.

A: Changed financial circumstances are a basis for modification of child support, so that may be possible indeed. More details are necessary to provide a professional analysis of your issue.
