Asked in Personal Injury for New York

Q: Is anyone available to take over a personal injury case for which his former attorney resigned due to not settling??

Is anyone available or willing to take over an existing personal injury case out of Kings County, NY? The plaintiff did not agree to settle with the City, and in turn, his former attorney withdrew from his case. Now courts are allowing him to locate a new attorney to follow thru with his case. The case is currently active in the Kings County Civil Supreme division.

A: His client should look for a mamber of the NYState Trial Lawyers Assn--they give free consults. However, they won't find that a client that refuses advice of an attorney is someone they're going to want to take on unless the client understands that the law of sovreign immunity--which protects the city--gives the city a lot of bargaining power. In short, time for the client to stop playing lawyer.
