Durham, NC asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: My son and 2 others each got a careless and reckless ticket. The cop put down the wrong vehicle info on the ticket?

The kids did a spin in a gravel parking lot that caused rock damage to 2 vehicles. My son's ticket has his correct name, address and license number but has the incorrect vehicle and tag number. Could we have this ticket dismissed?

A: Likely not and if you son did what the ticket alleges, nor should it be dismissed. Charging officer errors like what you mention can simply be amended or corrected by the ADA and are generally not grounds for dismissal (in good 'ol boy North Carolina, you don't often get off on mere technicalities). The best way to handle this is likely for your son to hire a local traffic attorney. Once damages have paid, it may then be possible to resolve the ticket in a way that will not affect his license, insurance or his future (C&R is a criminal misdemeanor). Best of luck and tell him no more horseplay in cars - next time damages may not just be property.
