Downey, CA asked in Insurance Bad Faith for California

Q: i received this message from my renters nsurance company after fileing a claim. even after i paid Can they do this?

this is a courtesy reminder to let you know that the renters insurance will be cancelled from the very first time you did the policy with state farm. i payed qua over 1500. 00 for a yrs coverage. then after my 2nd claim i was investigated and told that i failed to mark yes on my application when it asked if i have ever had a theft , either reported or non reported. i answered no. my fiance had his apt. robbed over 5 yrs ago,. he was working and i reported the incident for him to the authorities. He reported it to his insurance and collected a claim for his missing items through his policy. my license and phone were also taken but were not covered but my fiance replaced my 2 items that were taken. now my renters insurance is saying that because of this they wont cover my claim. they should have denied my application from the start then i could have obtained coverage elsewhere. instead i paid and all this time thinking im covered when after fileing a claim now find out that im not .

A: You can contest the cancellation and file a complaint with the CA Dept. of Insurance, depending on the exact wording of the question on the application and your exact answer.
