If you don't have a written lease, yes, the landlord can.
The landlord would give you written notice that your current tenancy is terminated and that you must leave in two weeks (actually 15 days, which of course is two weeks and one day). At the same time, the landlord could offer you a "new" tenancy at the increased rate.
