Daytona Beach, FL asked in Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: Should I get an attorney or try settle on my own?

My 2 small (10 pounds each) dogs were attacked in MY yard, which is fenced in. Pit bull jumped neighbors fence then jumped mine to injure my babies. One received exploratory surgery, the other has dislocation and 2 breaks. His 6 week chk up was today and cast remains on for at least 2 more weeks.

My daughter rushed over and took them to vet for me, her bf paid the $1500 vet bill with his credit card. They have an account with the vet and just had it put in their name. More charges have been added since this also.

Insurance lady wants proof these are my dogs, never mind the police report stating they are. Wants know how I got them, where they came from, how long I had them. I stopped talking to her, rather then go thru all the hoops she is asking, would it be better if I just hired an attorney? I know she will give me crap on the extra items you have to purchase because you can't let your dogs out, and the collars that was destroyed by the other dog. What should I do now

A: The "insurance lady" is with the neighbor's insurance company? Hire an attorney if you want, but the attorney will just charge you for being an intermediary between you and the insurance adjuster.
