Albemarle, NC asked in Traffic Tickets for North Carolina

Q: Can I get out of court appearance in NC?

Got pulled over on I-85 in NC on my way back to NJ. Got a citation for doing 85 in a 65. No fine but was told that a mandatory court appearance is needed otherwise a warrent can be put out. Just wondering the best course of action because I don't feel like driving all the way back there jist tp be told to pay a fine.

A: There was no fine listed because this isn't the type of ticket you can just 'pay off'. 20 mph over the limit may not be a big deal in NJ but in good 'ol boy NC - you got yourself a criminal traffic citation. So your best course of action is to hire a traffic attorney to handle things for you. If your address is correct on your ticket, you will likely get a crap ton of letters from traffic attorneys just itching to help you. While 20 over is a serious ticket, you don't need F. Lee Bailey so just roll with the cheapest quote. Odds are your court appearance can be waived. Enjoy making your financial contribution to our crappy school system and don't speed more than 5 over while in NC in the future.
