A: If she's in an accident and doesn't have your permission to use it, you have no responsibility. You should text her, email her, write her, etc. that she no longer has permission to use your car at all, and to inform you of where it is so that you can arrange to pick it up. As for the police, you need to be persistent and ask to speak to a different detective if need be. If that doesn't work, speak to the sergeant or police chief, or contact the district attorney. If you car is stolen, law enforcement should respond.

A: You've created a problem because you told the police she had permiossion. Problem is you need to locate your car and bring it back. Suggest you contact her, tell her that as it has no registration any more she shouldn't drive it, let you know where it is you will pick it up. Until then I wouldn't re-register it. Hopefully it was insured until the registration expired. A lot depends on your states insurance law--it it says all vehicles operated on the road need insurance you have problems if she got in a wreck. Once registration goes you have to look at the law to see if the driver or the owner get socked..

To protect yourself you should renew the insurance because otherwise your license could get suspended, even if you don't have the car!
